Lithuania seeking for a new coach after Rio triumph
In Rio Lithuania won their first Paralympic gold medal in men’s goalball. It was a dream come true for many Lithuanian goalball enthusiasts. For head coach Karolis Levickis and star player Genrik Pavliukianec it was a last favour for Lithuanian goalball.
After Levickis long reign as head coach they are now seeking for a new head coach. Adele Markeviciute, who was assistant coach in Rio, is temporary coach in the Pajulahti Games but says that she won’t be a candidate for the permanent job.
– Every year there is an important tournament coming, this year it’s the European Championships in Pajulahti, so of course it would be good to find a new coach quite soon, says Markeviciute, a former goalball referee.
– But goalball is a small sport and there are not many coaches with goalball experience, she continues and says that it’s interesting to see how things will work out with Finnish goalball team who appointed basketball coach Jarkko Pokkinen as their new head coach
