Powerlifting

The bench press is the only discipline with 10 different categories based on body weight. The athletes are given three attempts and the winner is the athlete who lifts the highest number of kilograms. Powerlifting is the ultimate test of upper body strength. Competitors must lower the bar to the chest, hold it motionless on the chest and then press it upwards to arms length with locked elbows.

National competition in all weight categories will be organized on Saturday 22nd January during the Pajulahti Games. Competition starts with weighing on Saturday morning and follow by the competition. The competition follows the powerlifting rules of International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Weight categories for women are 40.00 kg, 44.00 kg, 48.00 kg, 52.00 kg, 56.00 kg, 60.00 kg, 67.50 kg, 75.00 kg, 82.50 kg and +82.50 kg. Men compete in 48.00 kg, 52.00 kg, 56.00 kg, 60.00 kg, 67.50 kg, 75.00 kg, 82.50 kg, 90.00 kg, 100.00 kg and +100.00 kg weight categories.
